Dragzine Magazine Features the WDRA Sanction Effort With Revolutionary 330′ Street Legal Dragway

Named the Street Legal Dragway, it is a specifically shortened 330-foot race surface that is a revolutionary concept that could change the face of street legal racing.

The driving force behind the project, Andy Marocco, wanted to create an economically feasible solution to provide a safe and legal alternative to illegal street racing. The new facility is next to the Southern California Fair Grounds in Riverside County.

Compared to the complexities of a typical dragstrip, it represents a lower-cost startup (sans timing system, building structures, and more); the track can provide a simplified option to illegal street racing in a region where the urban sprawl of Southern California has all but wiped out the typical dragstrip relative to the region’s dense population.

The World Drag Racing Alliance (WDRA), a new sanctioning group within the sport, saw an opportunity to address the illegal street racing issue head-on by partnering with Andy on the project, which can be a scalable model that can be readily adopted across the country.

The WDRA believes this is a blueprint for others to follow. All cars must be registered, insured, street legal, and the driver must have a valid license.

With the support of the World Drag Racing Alliance, Street Legal Dragway could be a game-changer for drag racing, offering a scalable model that could repeat history as a starting point for street racers to grow.
